About Salon Accounting

Salon Accounting is a bookkeeping and quarterly tax app built specifically for independent salon owners — hairstylists, barbers, nail techs, estheticians, and other beauty professionals. It helps you track income, expenses, and profit so you always know your numbers.
It's designed for independent salon professionals who are self-employed and need to track their business finances. Whether you rent a booth, own a suite, or run a small salon, it's built for you.
Not at all. Salon Accounting is designed to be as simple as possible. If you can enter a dollar amount and pick a category, you can use it. No debits, credits, or chart of accounts to worry about.
Salon Accounting is available on the web (any browser), iOS (iPhone/iPad), and Android. Your data syncs across all platforms automatically.
It was created by David and Julie Manske. Julie has been behind the chair since the 80's, and David is a software developer. Together, they built the tool Julie always wished she had — and launched it in 2012 through their company, Creative Reputation, LLC.
Getting Started

Setup & Account

Visit app.salonaccounting.com and click 'Start Free Trial.' Enter your email, create a password, and name your workspace (your salon name). That's it — you're in.
Yes! You get 14 days of full access to all features. No credit card required. If you love it, pick a plan. If not, there's no charge.
Currently, you can connect your bank account to automatically import transactions. We're exploring direct data import from other platforms in the future.
Yes. You can create multiple workspaces within your account — perfect if you own more than one location or want to keep separate books.
Banking

Bank Connections & Transactions

You securely connect your bank account or credit card through our banking partner. Transactions are automatically imported and ready for you to categorize. It's the fastest way to track expenses.
Absolutely. We use bank-level security and encrypted connections. We never store your bank login credentials — that's handled by our secure banking partner.
No. Bank connection is optional. You can manually enter all your income and expenses if you prefer. Many salon owners do both — manual income entry plus auto-imported expenses.
We support thousands of financial institutions across the US, including all major banks and credit unions. If your bank has online banking, it's likely supported.
Bookkeeping

Income, Expenses & Reports

At the end of each day (or week), enter your total services, tips, and product sales. We use daily totals instead of per-transaction entry — it's faster and simpler for salon owners.
We provide salon-specific categories including Supplies, Rent/Lease, Education, Insurance, Advertising, Tools & Equipment, and more. These map to standard IRS Schedule C categories for tax time.
Yes! Take a photo of your receipt and attach it to any expense. Receipts are stored digitally in your account — perfect for audits and tax preparation.
You get Profit & Loss (P&L) statements — monthly, quarterly, and annually. You can see total income, total expenses, and net profit at a glance.
Yes — and you should! Cash income is taxable and cash-heavy businesses are common audit targets. Salon Accounting makes it easy to log cash income as part of your daily totals.
Taxes

Quarterly Taxes

We don't file taxes for you — but we make tax prep dramatically easier. We calculate your estimated quarterly tax payments, remind you when to pay, and provide P&L statements that your tax preparer will love.
As a self-employed salon owner, you owe estimated income and self-employment taxes four times per year (April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15). Missing payments can result in penalties.
We use your net profit (income minus expenses) and apply current federal self-employment tax rates. The calculation factors in your tax profile (filing status, etc.) for a more accurate estimate.
The quarterly tax calculation engine, payment reminders, and IRS payment links are included in the All Features plan ($21.99/mo). The Essential and Scheduling plans focus on bookkeeping and scheduling.
We recommend it for annual tax filing. Salon Accounting handles the bookkeeping and quarterly estimates — your tax preparer handles the final return. Our clean P&L statements make their job (and your bill) much easier.
Pricing

Plans & Billing

Plans start at $7.99/month for Essential Accounting. The Accounting + Scheduling plan is $14.99/month, and the All Features plan (including quarterly taxes) is $21.99/month.
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time. Changes take effect on your next billing cycle.
No hidden fees. The price you see is the price you pay. If you use Stripe for payment processing, standard Stripe fees apply (set by Stripe, not us).
You'll be asked to choose a plan. If you don't subscribe, your data is saved for 30 days in case you change your mind.
Since we offer a free trial, we generally don't offer refunds. However, contact us at support@salonaccounting.com if you have concerns — we'll work with you.
